2nd LIFE

A.N.G.E.L.O.

Angelo Caroli started his career in the late 1970s.
He was 17 years old and worked for a local radio station offering listeners style advice.
He began to buy clothes and accessories that for him then represented the novelty, that is what came from America: jeans, t-shirts, Hawaiian shirts, military jackets. In 1978 he opened his first shop: a small one of only 30 square metres, in via Circondario Sud, 37 in Lugo (Ravenna). Here he sells cheap Made in USA clothing, all meticulously selected, cleaned and labelled. The word ‘vintage’ didn’t even exist in those days. I used to sell ‘used American’ and the kids were crazy about it, the mothers a bit less so…
Angelo stands out for his refined taste and aesthetic eye and immediately began collecting and preserving garments that he believes transcend and make up the history of fashion: women’s, men’s and children’s garments and accessories from all over the world and dating from the mid-19th century to the 1990s; iconic items from the history of fashion but also military, work and sportswear. Piece by piece, the collection gets bigger and more interesting and the aesthetic attraction soon evolves into a design idea of recovery and recycling. In my opinion, fashion is a means to express oneself, to be unique. But it is also an ethical choice that can lead, as in the case of vintage, to recycling and historical recovery. On 6 June 1992, the new shop was inaugurated: the Vintage Palace was born, containing the historical archive where garments and accessories not for sale are available for research for stylistic use by sector operators. The historical archive is regularly visited by fashion designers and the most influential magazines in the sector.
A.N.G.E.L.O. Vintage Palace is considered one of the most influential and important vintage clothing shops in Italy and the world and its historical archive is now an international reference point for the entire fashion system.

The Mecca of Vintage

A.N.G.E.L.O. Vintage Palace is one of Europe’s largest vintage fashion shops and archives.
Since 1978, founder Angelo Caroli has been researching and selecting clothes and accessories that epitomise excellence in design and style, combining sustainability with refined aesthetic taste. In the heart of the historic centre of Lugo di Ravenna, the shop offers a careful selection of quality vintage clothing from the 1960s to the 1990s for men, women and children, ranging from sportswear to military clothing, from cult jeans to the most prestigious luxury brands.
Unique and original pieces, to access all the best of the style of yesteryear with an ethical and recycling philosophy.
On the top two floors of the Palace, the historical archive holds a collection of over 120,000 garments and accessories dating from the late 19th century to the early 2000s, not for sale but available for rental and consultation only.
The stylistic archive is aimed at professionals in the fashion sector, from designers to stylists and researchers, and collaborates with cultural bodies and institutions for costume exhibitions and displays.
Accessible by appointment only.

Vintage archive for stylistic use

Vintage archive for stylistic useGarments that are not for sale but are available for hire by professionals in the sector: designers, style offices, stylists, fashion magazines, researchers, experts, teachers and students.
A world that also takes on a social value and becomes a need for recovery and attention to the preservation of our history, a place destined to preserve the memory of costume, but also a fundamental stage in the designers’ current creative process. The clothes and accessories are selected for the archive according to different criteria: from the importance of the brand, the designer or the tailor, to rarity, eccentricity, detail, the particular models or the materials with which they are made. The exhibition area of the archive, dedicated to rentals, extends over several floors of the Vintage Palace and surrounding areas, and combines exclusive designer clothes with everyday, sports, military and work wear. It therefore offers a broad view of the history of costume over the last century, including accessories such as scarves, glasses, bags and shoes. Of particular interest is the collection of military garments, divided by country and period of origin, and of historical denim, which represent the starting point of the A.N.G.E.L.O. collection.
The selection of garments dating from the end of the 19th century to the 1920s and 1930s, the rarest and most delicate, are catalogued and stored in optimal conditions for their preservation: they are wrapped in sheets of non-acidic tissue paper to absorb any moisture and protect them, and placed horizontally inside cardboard boxes. This selection of vintage clothes is mainly available for exhibitions, or specific requests.
A.N.G.E.L.O. is now considered by those working in the sector to be an international point of reference for the entire fashion system.
